Personal Development on color

I have learnt many things on color through this subject.
The most useful thing is Colour Wheel.
I can mix & match on clothing with more confidience.
& I know that what is CHROMA & VALUE.
it's quite useful for me to develop my design project & further assignment/ job.

Besides, i have a more detailed understanding of Burberry.
I know the changes of its collection, style & color.
E.g only symbol color (khaki, grey, black) ---> colorful style (red, yellow, blue)
This is really useful for me to develop my style on clothing in the future.
& i get more inspiration to develop my design.

Color Forecasting Report

After exploring Burberry's history, collections & culture,
I would like to forecast 2010 Burberry's color trend.

For history,
Burberry uses its brand logo color for every collection.
That's beige, brown, black, white, grey & red.
Because these color are the symbol of this brand.
So i guess Burberry would also use some of the symbol color next year.

For S/S collection,
Burberry made more variation in color on clothing.
E.g. 2005, it's very colorful on both women & men's clothing.
For example, yellow, blue, green... to show the vitality of summer.

For F/W collection,
Burberry usually used its symbol color on its clothing.
Because they give us Autumn & Winter feeling.
Also, color which used in F/W are usually duller & darker.

For Culture,
Burberry tends to develop young market this few years.
The clothes become younger & more changeful.
So I think the use of color can also be highly changeable.
May be we can keep the symbol color for main color,,
& add some color that did not use before on accessories/ small parts on clothing.
Or,, change the chroma or value of a hue to give a different mood of every season.

Other aspects,
There are lots of things to affect a brand to use a color in its collection.
For instance, individual deflection,
different moods can be equalled different color.
People are experiencing economic downturn, most of us are under pressure & do not feel happy.
So maybe they will choose darker color instead of bright color.

FORECAST:::::::::::::::
S/S 2010
I will choose some soft & mild color for next year S/S collection.
Because Burberry tends to choose milky color this few years , giving us a relaxing feeling.
I like those color too as new start is needed in spring.
Many people do not feel happy in 2008-09 because of the economy & wars.
We need something which can bring us peace & calmness.
So i think these color may be suitable for Burberry S/S collection next year.

F/W 2010

For 2010 Autumn & Winter, i will choose dark & dull color, just like the past collection of Burberry.
E.g. violet, browwn, black, dark blue..
But it will be too down & sad if we wear these color every day.
So i add claret, beige, blackish green to show energy & power.

Chic Dandy*

Beyond ladies' clothing, Burberry also create many clothes for men.
The above photos is from Burberry Prorsum this year.
Christopher Bailey tend to let men become sexier!!
Also, he tried to change different styles of trench coats.
It's good to see Burberry getting more colorful but do not lose its charactristics!

Burberry Childrens wear

It's soooooooooooooooooooooooo cute!!
It's a new idea of Baiely for Burberry design.
The first shop of Burberry Childrens wear was opened in England.
& this line also started on March of 2008 in HK.

We can see that Burberry have changed its style a lot.
***
Most of people only know trench coat, checked, beige color..
They nay equal those things to Burberry & know nothing else.
Because Burberry's design did not change a lot in the early years.
We rarely see Burberry's clothes had sharp color on clothing.
But in the lastest decade, more colorful & cheery ideas were seen in Burberry's collection.
& it tends to develop teenagers' market.
The collection become more trendy, stylish & creative!!!

Christopher Bailey

Christopher Bailey

In 2001, Christopher Bailey, 29, assumed the post of creative director at Burberry. A veteran of Donna Karan and Gucci, where he'd spent over five years as a womenswear designer under Tom Ford, Bailey was faced with the challenge of forging a hip and fashion-forward identity for the 150-year-old British company known for its sturdy coats and tartan plaid.Enlivening the timeless classics of Burberry's past with the punky vibe of London street fashion, Bailey set to work on the Burberry Prorsum ready-to-wear collection. The outerwear is still there, but the traditional trenchcoat might be rendered in silvery metallic brocade, ivory leather, or black emblazoned with metal studs. As for the trademark, oft-copied Burberry check, it crops up occasionally on the edging of a bikini or a handbag—supersized, distressed, or in an unexpected color like green. (The standard plaid is still found all over the umbrellas, golf gloves, and luggage in the retail stores, but it's been banned from the runway.)
Bailey tends to work in monochromatic neutrals instead—black, brown, and gray for fall; white and khaki for spring—but adds unexpected flourishes such as tiers of feathers or ruched chiffon.Fashion critics have deemed Bailey's image overhaul a success. Style.com's Sarah Mower writes that turning "the frumpy old country lady's Burberry into a fashionable thing" is "something of a cause for national pride in Britain."
The public agrees: Burberry's profits have skyrocketed since Bailey's arrival. The son of a carpenter and store display designer, Bailey grew up in working-class Halifax. He currently lives in London, where he oversees the Burberry empire, but keeps a country house in Yorkshire.

F/W 4

2009*

This is 2009 Fall Ready-to-wear.
I think it tends to be casual and comfortable style in the coming winter.
Main color used in 09 winter is black, white, beige and grey.
-
--
---
* seeking an easy way to dress for Fall
* loose, waist-defying dresses over thick ribbed tights
* chunky high walking boots
* The comfortable, shrug-on outer pieces were, as Bailey pledged, the main attraction.
* Burberry's is outerwear, and that's what I've worked on here, from the casual shell of a trench to luxe furs

F/W 3

2008*

This year, Burberry's Fall/Winter Collection was brighter than the lasy few years.
Brown, dark blue, violet, griseous and claret is this year's color theme.
I like these type of color very much because they give me a comfotable & soft feeling.
We can sense that winter is coming!
Also, I like Burberry's coats too!
They are so cool & stylish, giving us a mature mood.

Before the show, the designer was explaining how he went about squaring that massive circle for Fall: with busbylike wool beanies; plain, girl-friendly overcoats; and "trumpet" flares, on the one hand; and on the other, with extraordinarily worked, couturelike outerwear constructed from tiered feathers, suede "sequins," and fringed leather leaves.

Bailey put his focus on proportion. He began by balancing a short silhouette (coats came curved into the hem) over long, skinny legs walking on high platforms, then worked in his great-looking bootlegs with boyish jackets in menswear fabrics. As the collection segued to the luxury end, the handcrafted coats became ever more complex and textured: in multi-pleated, knotted strips of organza; pieces of fox fur cut out and re-appliquéd; piled-up shredded leaves of chiffon.

F/W 2

2007*

This year, nearly all the clothes were used black colour.
Only 2-3 clothes were used beige/blackish green.
& only 1 outfit violet in color.
*

it's so cool of this collection.
You could feel so dark if you were in the show.

This season, beige gabardine and checks gave way to zippy padded anoraks with big fold-over collars and, latterly, silver-armor embroidery and rich jacquard flower- and leaf-patterned coats
For those tuned to a high-fashion frequency, the collection also registered a hint of the body-conscious dressing (in this case, layered over knits) and the belted, short, full-skirted Alaïa-esque silhouette that is coming out of London. Burberry, after all, is based in the English capital, and Christopher Bailey is that city's most accomplished example of what can be done when young design is melded with commerce.

Let's analysis FALL WINTER COLLETION!!!

This is 2006 Burberry F/W collection.
Beige, milky white, brown are the symbol color of Burberry.
Dark blue & black are also suitable for winter clothing.
********************
********************
*fashioning double-breasted coat dresses with deep pockets, worn with nutty cable-knit hats

*making classic country jacket quilting jump from bags to leather jackets to velvet evening coats, and using the leather-covered D-ring of the raincoat belt on cylindrical-heel pumps and bags. The gold-link bracelets and the new oversize sunglass frames offered more evidence of Burberry's burgeoning product lines.
Classic with playful, casual with dressy, young with grown-up
is the theme of this year's collection

Burberry's beauties

To forecast next year's color trend, beyond clothes, make-up is also a part of elements that we should concern.
Because every year, even every season, cosmetics are developed very fast!
Ladies not only buy clothes by trend, but also cosmetics.
For Burberry, make-up usually is nude and brown,, to match its clothes color.
I like this kind of make-up as it's natural & pure.
I dont like people make up their face being toooooooo exaggerated..
If it's a special day or you are artist, it's ok.
haha..
In summer, people usually choose colorful cosmetics to show their happiness.
e.g. pink, orange, green, blue...
In winter, nearly every year, most of the ladies will use black, brown or grey for their make up.

S/S 5

2009*

This year, gradual change in colour is popular.
We can see that Burberry also use this element in its collection.
The color of this year's S/S are the symbol of Burberry items.
These colour can be seen in the past few years.
I think that this year's clothing color is quite dark, not colorful or vivid.
maybe because of the economic downturn, we will change our color choice on clothing.
Bailey worked tints of ochers, browns, and mossy greens into a slew of fabrics, skinny cardigans, boyfriend pantsuits, and leather that looked as if it had all been treated to a good downpour.
Among the dip-dyed and crinkled effects, there were some great items. Anyone who jumped on Burberry's flares last season will love this Spring's extreme version: the shrink-to-the-leg cheesecloth trouser that made a clever compromise between sheer leggings and a pant.
although Bailey worked up to brighter gold brocades and gunmetal lamé in the closing passages, the show could have benefited from a sunnier outlook for next summer, and a stricter edit.

S/S 4

2008*

The collection of Burberry was a bit blazing last year.
Normally, Christopher Bailey uses beige, brown, grey, black every year.
They become a symbol of Burberry.
Purple is also a color in common use.
Last year, some clothes had vivid color, such as blue, yellow, shocking pink, showing a energetic mood.

This was the sexiest version of Burberry yet, all ruched chiffon, leather belts studded with military medallions, and stacks of chain bracelets—an accurate riff on nineties body-con dressing and the stirrings of the heavy-metal revival that's coming out of London

Essentially it was a collection of short, highly worked chiffon, tulle, and organdy dresses, under puffy peplumed jackets and an array of lightweight coats that ran from rockin' to super-rich.
