Personal Development on color

I have learnt many things on color through this subject.
The most useful thing is Colour Wheel.
I can mix & match on clothing with more confidience.
& I know that what is CHROMA & VALUE.
it's quite useful for me to develop my design project & further assignment/ job.

Besides, i have a more detailed understanding of Burberry.
I know the changes of its collection, style & color.
E.g only symbol color (khaki, grey, black) ---> colorful style (red, yellow, blue)
This is really useful for me to develop my style on clothing in the future.
& i get more inspiration to develop my design.

Color Forecasting Report

After exploring Burberry's history, collections & culture,
I would like to forecast 2010 Burberry's color trend.

For history,
Burberry uses its brand logo color for every collection.
That's beige, brown, black, white, grey & red.
Because these color are the symbol of this brand.
So i guess Burberry would also use some of the symbol color next year.

For S/S collection,
Burberry made more variation in color on clothing.
E.g. 2005, it's very colorful on both women & men's clothing.
For example, yellow, blue, green... to show the vitality of summer.

For F/W collection,
Burberry usually used its symbol color on its clothing.
Because they give us Autumn & Winter feeling.
Also, color which used in F/W are usually duller & darker.

For Culture,
Burberry tends to develop young market this few years.
The clothes become younger & more changeful.
So I think the use of color can also be highly changeable.
May be we can keep the symbol color for main color,,
& add some color that did not use before on accessories/ small parts on clothing.
Or,, change the chroma or value of a hue to give a different mood of every season.

Other aspects,
There are lots of things to affect a brand to use a color in its collection.
For instance, individual deflection,
different moods can be equalled different color.
People are experiencing economic downturn, most of us are under pressure & do not feel happy.
So maybe they will choose darker color instead of bright color.

FORECAST:::::::::::::::
S/S 2010
I will choose some soft & mild color for next year S/S collection.
Because Burberry tends to choose milky color this few years , giving us a relaxing feeling.
I like those color too as new start is needed in spring.
Many people do not feel happy in 2008-09 because of the economy & wars.
We need something which can bring us peace & calmness.
So i think these color may be suitable for Burberry S/S collection next year.

F/W 2010

For 2010 Autumn & Winter, i will choose dark & dull color, just like the past collection of Burberry.
E.g. violet, browwn, black, dark blue..
But it will be too down & sad if we wear these color every day.
So i add claret, beige, blackish green to show energy & power.

Beyond ladies' clothing, Burberry also create many clothes for men.
The above photos is from Burberry Prorsum this year.
Christopher Bailey tend to let men become sexier!!
Also, he tried to change different styles of trench coats.

Burberry Childrens wear

It's soooooooooooooooooooooooo cute!!
It's a new idea of Baiely for Burberry design.
The first shop of Burberry Childrens wear was opened in England.
& this line also started on March of 2008 in HK.

We can see that Burberry have changed its style a lot.
***
Most of people only know trench coat, checked, beige color..
They nay equal those things to Burberry & know nothing else.
Because Burberry's design did not change a lot in the early years.
We rarely see Burberry's clothes had sharp color on clothing.
But in the lastest decade, more colorful & cheery ideas were seen in Burberry's collection.
& it tends to develop teenagers' market.
The collection become more trendy, stylish & creative!!!

Christopher Bailey

Christopher Bailey

In 2001, Christopher Bailey, 29, assumed the post of creative director at Burberry. A veteran of Donna Karan and Gucci, where he'd spent over five years as a womenswear designer under Tom Ford, Bailey was faced with the challenge of forging a hip and fashion-forward identity for the 150-year-old British company known for its sturdy coats and tartan plaid.Enlivening the timeless classics of Burberry's past with the punky vibe of London street fashion, Bailey set to work on the Burberry Prorsum ready-to-wear collection. The outerwear is still there, but the traditional trenchcoat might be rendered in silvery metallic brocade, ivory leather, or black emblazoned with metal studs. As for the trademark, oft-copied Burberry check, it crops up occasionally on the edging of a bikini or a handbag—supersized, distressed, or in an unexpected color like green. (The standard plaid is still found all over the umbrellas, golf gloves, and luggage in the retail stores, but it's been banned from the runway.)
Bailey tends to work in monochromatic neutrals instead—black, brown, and gray for fall; white and khaki for spring—but adds unexpected flourishes such as tiers of feathers or ruched chiffon.Fashion critics have deemed Bailey's image overhaul a success. Style.com's Sarah Mower writes that turning "the frumpy old country lady's Burberry into a fashionable thing" is "something of a cause for national pride in Britain."
The public agrees: Burberry's profits have skyrocketed since Bailey's arrival. The son of a carpenter and store display designer, Bailey grew up in working-class Halifax. He currently lives in London, where he oversees the Burberry empire, but keeps a country house in Yorkshire.
